Cyprus airports has reopened under traffic-light system as of 1st March,
without quarantine restrictions

After a very well-planned lockdown period with successful results, due to Coronavirus, which has frozen the operation of travelling to Cyprus, our dream and wish come true with the reopening of the Cyprus airports as of 1st March. In addition, passengers will be able to visit Cyprus without quarantine restrictions, unless they test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival.

As of March 1st, the existing category system will be replaced by the traffic-light system, adopted by the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC), whereby countries are classed as green, orange or red, with an added grey category, for arrivals requiring a special permit.

In simple terms, the new category system will roughly correspond to the A-B-C system, currently in place in Cyprus.

Below are the modifications concerning the Action Plan for the gradual resumption of flights and the re-opening of airports, which will be implemented as of 1st March 2021 and the amendments are as follows:

1.) For the EU member states and countries in the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), including Switzerland, will be sorted into the green, orange or red categories according to their epidemiological data.

2.) In addition, only for the month March 2021, the evaluation of third countries (United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Lebanon, UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Belarus), as well as of the European Council Recommendation list of third countries, will be carried out by the Ministry of Health, which will classify them as green, orange, red and grey, in accordance to their coronavirus pandemic situation. Those of the above countries classified as grey, will need a special permit and in addition, passengers will have to present a laboratory PCR test, within 72 hours prior to departure. In this category, self-isolation/quarantine measures shall apply, in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

3.) Persons travelling from GREEN countries, there is no need to demonstrate a negative PCR test for COVID-19, when traveling to Cyprus; they only need to provide certain information and solemn declarations.

4.) Persons travelling from ORANGE countries are required to undergo a molecular test at a certified lab, with the sample taken during the last 72 hours prior to flight departure and upload a certificate that demonstrates a negative PCR for COVID-19, on the Cyprus Flight Pass Platform. Children below the age of 11.99 are exempted from testing. All travelers will also need to provide certain information and solemn declarations.

5.) Persons travelling from RED countries are required to undergo a molecular test at a certified lab, with the sample taken during the last 72 hours prior to flight departure and upload a certificate that demonstrates a negative PCR for COVID-19, on the Cyprus Flight Pass Platform. They will also need to pay for and undergo a molecular PCR test upon arrival to Cyprus, the cost of which is 30 Euros at Larnaca airport and 32 Euros at Paphos airport; results of the test will be available within 3 hours, and will be shared with the traveler by SMS after his or her departure from the airport. Only children below the age of 11.99 are 2 exempted from testing. All travelers will also need to provide certain information and solemn declarations.

6.) Persons travelling from GREY countries are required to undergo a molecular test at a certified lab, with the sample taken during the last 72 hours prior to flight departure and upload a certificate that demonstrates a negative PCR for COVID-19, on the Cyprus Flight Pass Platform. In addition, they will remain in a status of obligatory self-isolation / quarantine for fourteen (14) days or a status of obligatory self-isolation / quarantine for ten (10) days, provided they undergo another PCR test for Covid-19 on the 10th day, at their own expense. The result of the lab test must be submitted to the electronic address monada@mphs.moh.gov.cy. Children below the age of 11.99 are exempted from testing. All travelers will also need to provide certain information and solemn declarations.
